Chicago Fact: The Loop is so named because Chicago's elevated train tracks (locals call it The El) surround the area.
(November 11, 2006) - Saturday, Macy’s continued the favorite Marshall Field’s on State Street holiday tradition by unveiling this years’ window display. To help Macy’s make the most of this time-honored Chicago tradition, Santa Claus, who arrived on a bright red Double Decker bus full of singing children, gave the command to open the curtains revealing this year’s window theme as Mary Poppins.
Marshall Field’s first started decorating their windows for the holidays with a theme in 1967 with “Santa’s Theater of Christmas Joy”. Since then, it has been a time-honored favorite of Chicagoans and visitors alike and it looks as though now that the torch as been passed to Macy’s, the window tradition will continue to be something all Chicagoans can look forward to for years to come.
