CHICAGO - Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. received the 2010 Illinois Excellence in Tourism Award for Best Website of the Year. The award was recently presented at the Annual Illinois Governor's Conference on Tourism, by WGN-TV's Julian Cruz and the Illinois Bureau of Tourism Deputy Director Jan Kostner.
"We wanted to build a site that would act as a resource for people looking for information about the destination rather than just about the tour," said Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. Vice President of Charter Sales & Marketing, John A. Curran. "Value is an extremely important component of our marketing plan and the special offers on the site reflect that sensibility. Our goal was to build a booking engine that made it easy for our users to buy tickets and we feel this goal has been successfully met."
Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. launched their new website on May 1, 2009. Since that time, the company recorded an increase in online tour tickets sales of 350% over the year prior, group sales inquiries grew almost 200% and the sales in the Park Shop retail location increased by 77%.
The new and improved website provides an exciting interactive look at the people, places and things to discover in Chicago and was tooled to effectively reach out to both domestic and international travelers, travel agents, tour operators and local residents looking for activities in the city. Categories include Chicago's Best Tour, Custom Group Tours and Rent-a-Trolley (corporate and private events, and weddings). The site features video, an interactive map and many special offers.
The home page showcases Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. and it also features images and video footage of Chicago's finest attractions such as Field Museum's Sue, Blue Man Group and great theater. Navigational tabs describe "Chicago's Best Tour" in great detail with pricing, tips for getting around the city and a detailed description of the Signature Tour stops. An interactive tour map allows users to point and click on any trolley stop to see a description of businesses and activities at the stop, along with images. The "Specials and Promotions" page highlights more than 16 free gifts, values and discounts received with every tour ticket purchased. Travel agents, tour operators, concierges and other travel professionals have a dedicated page, which includeds an "agent login" section to facilitate their purchase of tour tickets or to recieve a quote for group travel. Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. livens up the pages with their famous humor throughout the site, as well as Chicago trivia and fun facts in the left margins.
The site also recently won an Adrian Award from the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International in New York City.
