CHICAGO (June 2, 2006) - Megabus.com passengers are giving up their cars in return for the low-fare transportation alternative. According to a recent poll of megabus.com riders, 45 percent of those who have used the new bus service said they previously used a car to make the trip they made with megabus.com. The survey conducted by Coach USA's research department polled 1,600 customers throughout megabus.com's eight markets.
Additionally, the survey revealed that 24 percent of megabus.com passengers are former train users, 17 percent used to travel by another bus service and 13 percent are former airline passengers.
"We are extremely pleased with the results from this research. The positive response from customers continues to solidify the need for this type of innovative service in the United States," said Dale Moser, president and chief operating officer of Coach USA. "With gas prices going up, megabus.com is an excellent alternative to driving, and since 50 percent of the survey respondents said their purpose for traveling was social, people can enjoy their vacation and visits to family and friends this summer without the worries of high gas prices."
The survey also found that 94 percent of passengers are likely to travel with megabus.com again and that the service offers value for money spent.
"My trip from Milwaukee to Chicago was faster and cheaper than driving," said Joe Ahlers, a megabus.com passenger from Milwaukee. "Megabus.com cut the cost of my trip in half and I could relax the entire way home. The trip was comfortable, affordable and on time. I'd take megabus.com again in a heartbeat."
