Tour itinerary:

June 2 - Today we head to Ohio’s most lovely corner in Ashtabula County near Geneva-on-the-Lake. Our first stop will be at the Ridgeview Farm and Country Market located in the Amish Country where the owners are proud to share the history of this real working farm - visit the farm market with produce in season. Our guide will meet us and take us on a wonderful day of touring throughout this county. Other stops today will include the Amish Home Craft & Bakery where we will learn how the Amish have their wedding right in their homes as well as other interesting facts. Mrs. Miller also normally has a home made treat for us during our visit. Middlefield Cheese will be another stop today which will include a home made bag lunch for everyone. Here you will also be able to visit the museum and see how the cheese industry has changed over the years. Taste samples as you browse through this lovely store. We will also step back in time at the End of the Commons General Store which is the oldest operating general store in Ohio as well as a very popular landmark. Our guide will narrate about the area as we travel along today. Later this afternoon, we will check in at our charming lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake which is connected to the scenic Geneva State Park and borders Lake Erie. There are lovely paved walkways and paths for those interested in a stroll through the park along the water – beautiful scenery to take in. We will then enjoy an included dinner at one of this area’s many wineries at the Grand River Cellars Winery and Restaurant to top off a delightful day. This evening’s dinner is a festive event and always loved by all with delicious food along with wine tastings – fun ! We will arrive back at our lovely lodge for a free evening to enjoy as you wish. You may want to take a walk from your hotel in to the “strip” area which is normally filled with outside nightlife, shops and eateries. (D)

June 3 - Your breakfast is included this morning as you enjoy a leisure morning at the lodge. We will meet our guide once again and visit more landmarks in the area including a few of the many covered bridges, all with their own individual history. The Smolen Gulf Bridge claims the distinction of being the longest covered bridge in the nation and the fourth longest covered bridge in the world. It includes covered walkways on each side for those wishing to stroll across its 613 feet as it spans 93 feet above the scenic Ashtabula River. It was dedicated in August 2008 when completed at a cost of eight million dollars. The shortest covered bridge is located in this same county and you will have a chance to see it as well. There will be time for lunch and browsing at the friendly Ashtabula Harbor. After lunch, we arrive at the historic Jefferson Depot Village as you step back in time to the 1800’s and stroll through this preserved living history village with several historic buildings including the general store, one-room schoolhouse and church. Later this afternoon, it’s all aboard the AC&J Railroad for a train ride through scenic woodlands and farmland between the quaint villages of Jefferson to Carson. After our train ride, we will head for home after a wonderful visit to Ohio’s Most Lovely Corner ! (B)
