July 28 – Today we will first head to the lovely area of Cook Forest with a stop at the popular Farmer’s Inn amidst the beautiful scenery. This wonderful forest attraction includes a restaurant, ice cream stand, country gift shop, bakery, souvenirs, animal exhibits, petting zoo, Amish furniture and more. We will enjoy a little time here including a delicious home cooked lunch in a quaint atmosphere…enjoy your visit ! We will then move on to the mighty Kinzua Dam in the Allegheny National Forest which is one of the largest dams in the United States East of the Mississippi River. In addition to providing flood control and power generation, the dam created Pennsylvania’s deepest lake, the Allegheny Reservoir also known as Kinzua Lake. The Kinzua Dam construction was begun by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1960 and completed in 1965….it is a mighty sight and we will have plenty of time for viewing – be sure to bring your cameras. After an afternoon of sightseeing and enjoying the outdoor areas we will move a little further north to Salamanca, New York to spend the night. This is the home of the popular Seneca Allegany Casino where you will have the rest of the evening to enjoy as you wish. You don’t have to go to Las Vegas to get world-class gaming, dining and entertainment…from state of the art slot machines and your favorite table games and great dining, you will find the Seneca Allegany Casino has it all. We have found this to be one of the most popular casinos among our travelers. Even if you are not a gambler, the magnificent beauty of the building is lovely to see with its exquisite and colorful Indian décor. The casino has several restaurants and lounges (from upscale to relaxed) to enjoy as you wish along with a delicious buffet restaurant – take your pick for the evening as you wish. (L)
July 29 – Continental breakfast included at your hotel before we depart Salamanca and head further north to Lockport, NY. Here you will experience a unique cruise through the double set of locks on the Erie Canal. You will pass under bridges that raise straight up, see water cascade over Lockport’s famous “Flight of Five” locks and travel through the solid walls of the rock cut as your Coast Guard licensed captain describes the architecture, sights and folklore along the way. Bring your cameras and enjoy your cruise as you wave to the folks watching from the bridges or the joggers and bicyclists on the tow path. After your cruise, a delightful lunch will be served before we say goodbye to our friends on the “Erie Canal” and continue up to Niagara Falls, New York for our last overnight. (There will be time for viewing the falls, but this tour will be staying on the American side and no passport will be needed for passengers.) Your evening will be free to enjoy the town, visit the casino and have your choice of dining options in the area or at the casino. (CB, L)
July 30 – This morning we will meet our tour guide who will take us on an informative and lovely tour of the New York Niagara Falls area to show you why this is one of America’s most popular destinations. Your complete tour will include a very special up-close look at the falls aboard the magnificent Maid of the Mist boat cruise which will be an experience you will long remember. (Some of this tour is walking - dress comfortably so you can enjoy everything). We have included lunch in Niagara Falls before we depart the area for home. (L)
