It is simply a beautiful area to travel through. We will also spend time at Charlottesville visiting the historic 1784 Michie Tavern including a very special 18th century tavern lunch! Join us for this special itinerary we are sure you will love.

August 7 - We will depart our home towns today and head south towards Virginia - be sure to bring your cameras on this one so you can capture the natural beauty along the way. This afternoon we will arrive at Front Royal where we will enter the magnificent Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park - sit back - take it all in - enjoy a picturesque drive like no other. In addition, there are at least 50 species of animals within the park area and possibly we will come upon them during our travel to see them in their natural habitat. After a scenic ride, we will arrive in Charlottesville late this afternoon where we will check in at our lovely local hotel which will be our home for the next 2 nights. A welcome dinner will be included at a local restaurant - welcome to Charlottesville! (D)

August 8 - Breakfast included. This morning we will arrive at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, the home that Jefferson designed and built for himself and his family. We will tour inside the home of our third president which is an architectural masterpiece filled with his own inventions. You will marvel at the plantation grounds and gardens during our visit. We have allowed plenty of time for you to enjoy everything this venue has to offer. Be sure to dress comfortable today so you can partake in everything that Monticello has to offer. We will once again step back in time for a complete 18th century experience with an included lunch at Michie Tavern (located next to Monticello) complete with delicious southern fare. The historic Michie Tavern once served as the social center of its community and accommodated travelers with food, drink and lodging. This Virginia Landmark completely captures 18th century life with servers dressed in period attire serving delicious and hearty meals in a rustic tavern setting - truly a great experience. After lunch, we will be given a tour of this tavern filled with great history. There is also a shopping opportunity here with 4 different and unique shops to enjoy. Late this afternoon we will arrive at Ash Lawn, the home of our 5th president, James Monroe. This is a 535 acre working farm and performing arts site. This historic house was owned by President James Monroe and his wife, Elizabeth Kortright Monroe of New York, from 1793 to 1826 and they made it their official resident from 1799 to 1823 - remarkable history which still stands today. Step in the steps of the 5th president of the United States and walk as they did. After a fascinating afternoon filled with history, we will then arrive back at our local hotel with some time to relax after a full day. Dinner is on your own this evening as you wish. (B, L)

August 9 - Breakfast included. We will then say goodbye to Charlottesville and head a bit north to beautiful Luray, home of Luray Caverns which has been renowned as one of the world’s most spectacular natural wonders for more than 130 years. Since discovery in 1878 by a tinsmith and a local photographer, visits by the millions have made Luray Caverns the most popular caverns in Eastern America and an internationally acclaimed destination. Visitors of all ages can enjoy this visit as your tour is conducted from well-lighted paved walkways which lead you through cathedral-sized rooms with ceilings 10 stories high. Enormous chambers are filled with towering columns, shimmering draperies and crystal- clear pools. There will be time for lunch on your own at the Caverns Café or nearby eateries before we continue towards home. HOLDING 2014 RATES TO CELEBRATE OUR 75TH ANNIVERSARY FOR 2015! (B)
