Tour itinerary:

August 1 – We depart early this morning and head to Ohio with a stop for an included lunch before we board the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad. Relax on this old time passenger train that takes you on a leisurely ride through the foothills of Appalachia. This ride will carry you over century-old-right-of-way which is listed on the national Historic Register. Late this afternoon, we will arrive at our hotel near Cincinnati for the next 2 nights. There are several options near the hotel to enjoy dinner on your own as you please. (L)

August 2 – Breakfast included at your hotel. We will then meet our guide for a great day of touring starting with some of the sights right in the great city of Cincinnati. Christened the “Queen City” by Longfellow, you will learn about the influence of the early immigrants here, find out how many “hills” there are here and enjoy the beautiful parks and fascinating architecture. You will also see where they filmed such movies as Rain Man, Little Man Tate, Down And Out In Yonkers, and a Rage in Harlem. You will love the tour at Cincinnati’s Union Terminal built as Cincinnati’s main street station in the early 1930’s. This giant half dome structure which is the largest in the world offers the largest tile mosaics in the United States. It is now the home of the Museum of Natural History, the Historical Society, and the Children’s Museum as well as an operating train station. By late morning, we will arrive at Mainstrasse Village for lunch on your own where you can choose from a variety of restaurants, German, English, Cajun, Continental, Fast food, etc. You will then have time to explore this village populated by Germans in the mid-19th century. Check out the shops and the Carroll Chimes that displays the Pied Piper of Hamlin on the hour. Our next touring stop will be at the EnterTRAINment Junction which fits into our train theme. This attraction boasts the largest indoor model train layout in the WORLD with more than 2 miles of track with 90 G-scale trains. You will step into yesteryear upon entering through a 19th century streetscape and train depot featuring 17-foot mounts and 11-foot waterfalls! It will be a unique experience for all. Then get ready for tonight’s dining experience as we arrive at the Cincinnati Dinner Train featuring finely restored 1940’s vintage dining cars, equipped with a full service cash bar and music as you travel through Cincinnati while dining. Relive the past as it used to be with fond memories of the 40’s era – enjoy ! (B, D)

August 3 – Breakfast included and we will check out. By mid-morning we will arrive for our last nostalgic train ride on the Lebanon Mason & Monroe Railroad as it travels through Warren County inviting you to reminisce and capture moments of the past. Walk through the train to the open-air gondola and listen to informative the conductors describe about railroad history and operation during the ride. Lunch is included at the nearby historic Golden Lamb Inn which has been host to a dozen U.S. Presidents and countless celebrities of the years. This is Ohio’s oldest Inn located in the picturesque town of Lebanon, used in the filming of the movies, Harper Valley PTA and Milk Money. There will be time to shop and browse in this fascinating town before we depart for home after a wonderful train adventure. (B, L)
