August 25 – Departure early this morning as we head north into New York State and the Hudson Valley area which will be our home for the next 2 wonderful nights. We will check in to our hotel before enjoying a group dinner at one of the nearby restaurants which we know you will love. After dinner return to the hotel to relax for the remainder of the evening. (D)

August 26 – Breakfast included at your hotel. We will then meet our guide and take a tour at the Franklin Roosevelt National Historic Site containing the lifelong home of America’s only 4-term President along with the Presidential Library and Museum. President Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor, are buried here. You will enjoy the grounds, library, film and scenic sites. Later this morning we arrive at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park area which sets the excellence in the culinary world and could be the secret to the Hudson Valley’s extraordinary food and wine culture. The renowned school provides a steady supply of talented chef’s, many of whom fall in love with the region and stay on to create and cook in innovative restaurants. You will enjoy a unique tour of this amazing establishment which is normally guided by one of the Culinary Institute’s attending students. This campus operates five award-winning and student-staffed public restaurants, all with their own personality and offerings, and we will then have the most distinct opportunity to enjoy an included lunch in one of these on-campus restaurants - enjoy your wonderful culinary experience ! No trip to the Hudson Valley would be complete without visiting the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. This mansion was established as a monument to an era, rather than a tribute to any one person or family. At that time, it was the first home in the town of Hyde Park to have electricity which was generated by a hydroelectric power plant located on a creek that runs through the property. The estate illustrates a way of life modeled on the English country house and boasts centuries old tree plantings, stunning Hudson River and Catskill Mountain views and Italian Gardens maintained by volunteers…it remains today a place to understand “lifestyles of the rich and famous from its time. We will visit one of the newest attractions called Walkway Over The Hudson. This breathtaking pedestrian bridge stands 212 feet above the massive Hudson River and is 1.28 miles long, making it the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the entire world. Be sure to bring your cameras so you can capture these magnificent views which will embrace everyone – you will find this to be simply breathtaking to say the least. The cost of reconstructing this Walkway Project, now known as Walkway Over The Hudson State Park, was $ 38.8 million dollars and was completed in October 2009. Enjoy this wonderful experience ! After a busy day of enjoying the area, we will return to our hotel to freshen up before having dinner on your own at a near by restaurant. (B, L)

August 27 – Breakfast included at our hotel and we will end our touring in the area with a visit to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Many of our travelers have family and friends who have attended West Point which is a most prestigious accomplishment in one’s life. There is no better way to experience the sweep of America’s history than an exciting tour at West Point – historic figures such as George Washington, Robert E. Lee, U.S. Grant, Douglas MacArthur, Dwight Eisenhower and more have walked these grounds and contributed to West Point’s story. Along with the history and stories you will enjoy during your visit, you will also take in the breathtaking vistas of the Hudson Highlands, one of the most scenic sports in the Northeast area. Our final farewell to the area will end with a wonderful dining experience at the Hotel Thayer located right on the West Point complex. Arrival home late this evening after a wonderful weekend at holiday in the Hudson. (B, L)
