Tour Itinerary:

September 5 – We will arrive in Old Town Alexandria today where we will meet our guide for a short tour of the area to get us acquainted with our surroundings. Some of our sights will be the George Washington Masonic Temple, Robert D. Lee’s boyhood Home where he lived off and on for 13 years, the Apothecary Shop run for 5 generations by a Quaker family, Christ Church and more. This area is overflowing with history in every nook and cranny. Some places our motorcoach cannot go and we will also be provided with a map and allowed some free time to explore in Old Town where you can enjoy the antique shops, specialty shops, galleries and boutiques that give Alexandria its quaint and small town feel. Dinner will be included at one of this area’s popular restaurants – enjoy your dining experience. We will then check in to our hotel for the next 2 nights. (D)

September 6 – Breakfast included. Enjoy a walking tour with a colonial dressed guide as you are entertained by stories and charmed by Alexandria’s streets brimming with 18th century houses – it’s like time stood still all around you. There will be time for lunch on your own at your choice of restaurants and free time. During your visit, you will understand why George Washington chose to live near this once-thriving seaport, years before he chose the sit for the nation’s capital. This is an amazing place to visit. We will tour Gunston Hall, the plantation and home of George Mason, author of the Bill of Rights. Gunston Hall is an architectural beauty and virtually unchanged from the days when his good friend George Washington visited here and the Garden Club of Virginia had restored the impressive gardens. This is an amazing piece of history worth seeing. You will then board the Water Taxi in Old Town and depart to cross the Potomac River to the “new world” of the exquisite National Harbor. Enjoy an abundance of shopping and restaurants with dinner on your own at your choice of eateries. No matter what you are craving, the restaurants at the National Harbor are sure to suit your fancy including bistros, grills, fine dining, and everything in between with many you won’t find anywhere else. Our motorcoach will meet us at the National Harbor to transport us back to our hotel for the evening. (B)

September 7 – Breakfast included. This morning we will visit Mount Vernon, the elaborate estate of George Washington. Here you will discover the real George Washington with a Hollywood produced action adventure movie, interactive exhibits and more than 1,000 artifacts and life-size models. Visitors are also allowed to tour the restored Mansion, outbuildings and acres of gardens which include the tombs of George and Martha Washington. And of course, there is a gorgeous view of the Potomac River that can be enjoyed from Washington’s piazza! A very special lunch will be included at Mount Vernon – enjoy your dining experience. We will depart for home after lunch (B, L)
