The Hudson Valley area of New York has always been a draw to some of the wealthiest people in the world including politicians, statesmen aristocrats, businessmen and women, and self-made millionaires. It is an area abundantly rich in history and the legacy built there includes some of the finest examples of architecture and landscaping wrapped around the men and women who settled along the Hudson River. From personal retreats to palaces, the families include Roosevelt, Livingston, Vanderbilt, Mills, Rockefeller, and many more. This tour will highlight several of the most popular estates and they are amazing to witness. Butler Motor Tours has had requests to do a tour such as this which highlights the Mansions of the Hudson and we hope you will join us !

October 7 – Today we head across Pennsylvania and into New York state at one of the prettiest times of the year – fall. Enjoy your scenic and leisure ride today as we arrive late afternoon in the Hudson Valley area to check in at our hotel which will host us for 2 nights. We have included dinner tonight – welcome to the Hudson Valley. (D)

October 8 – Breakfast included at your hotel. We will meet our local professional guide who will take us on an upscale tour of the area. We start out at the Visitor Center at the Philipsburg Manor where we board mini buses for an escorted tour of Rockefeller’s Estate at Kykuit, a true Hudson Valley landmark with remarkable architecture and gardens, art, history, and spectacular scenery – it will be an amazing experience. This hilltop paradise was home to four generations of the Rockefeller family. Now a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, this extraordinary landmark has been continuously and meticulously maintained for more than 100 years. You will be in awe of your ornate surroundings of this magnificent estate as it feels like you took a step back in time to the palaces of kings and queens. A treat is included with a special lunch set up for us at Philipsburg Manor, a 17th century historic site that tells the story of slavery in the colonial north. Dine as you are surrounded by amazing history if a lifetime. This afternoon we continue our tour with a visit at "Sunnyside" historic house on 10 acres of grounds alongside the Hudson River in Tarrytown. If was formerly the home of American author, Washington Irving, best known for his short stories such as "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". This home contains a large collection of Irving’s original furnishings and accessories. While in this area, we will witness the Union Church…what appears from the outside to be a simple stone country church contains the finest examples of modern stained-glass art commissioned as memorials by direct members of the Rockefeller Family. Henri Matisse’s rose window, in shades of vivid colors, was this artist’s last work and he finished its design just two days before his death in 1954 and is dedicated to Abby Aldrich Rockefeller. And that is only "one" story about this church’s amazing stained glass history. This beautiful structure still houses an active congregation today and is a Hudson Valley icon. You will enjoy all your "lavish" touring today with the backdrop of the beautiful Hudson Valley fall scenery. After a full day, we will return to our hotel area and enjoy an included dinner. (B, L, D)

October 9 – Breakfast included at your hotel. This morning we visit another historic and beautiful landmark at Boscobel overlooking the Hudson River and was built in the early 19th century. Considered an outstanding example of the Federal style of American architecture, it has an extensive collection of period decorations and furniture and today is a historic house and museum….if these walls and this furniture could only talk ! During our visit we will include a tour and special high tea before departing the area and heading for home. (B)
