This trip was planned by sitting down and listing all the things we love to see and do most in the beautiful Fall season. We immediately thought of West Virginia and the magnificent mountain scenery that abounds throughout this picturesque state. Then we filled in the places we've been and things we've done there that stood out in our minds. A special way to enjoy it all is by rail, so we've included THREE train rides, plus some of our other favorite things to do in the area and Voila! Here you have the end result -- now we just need to figure out how to stow away in your suitcases and go along - ha/ha!

Day One: With time to get-acquainted with our new travel friends, we point our deluxe coach towards the “The Mountain State” known as West Virginia. Eighty percent of the state is forested with over 110,000 square miles of hardwood forest, wind-swept mountains and photoperfect valley landscapes. Enjoy a box lunch as we make our way to our first stop at the New River Gorge Visitor’s Center with opportunity to take a picture of the magnificent New River Bridge, America’s highest vehicular bridge and the world's 2nd longest single arch bridge. The views are awesome! On to Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park, home to one of West Virginia’s most undeveloped and scenic lakes. Take in this gorgeous setting as we cruise along the peaceful waters of the lake on a delightful touring boat with the WV mountains as our backdrop, followed by dinner at the Resort. We continue our journey to Elkins , WV where we’ll check into our hotel for the next two nights after a day of beautiful Autumn touring. Meals: (L, D)
DAY TWO: Two scenic train rides await us today! We’ll depart the Elkins Depot on the Cheat Mountain Salamander II, named in honor of the endangered species that lives exclusively along it's route. The Salamander takes you through West Virginia's Cheat Mountain wilderness with a light lunch included along the way. Wildlife is frequently seen during the course of the excursion, including black bear, turkey, bald eagles and whitetail deer. Next we’ll experience the sights and sounds of one of the rarest steam locomotives in existence on the Durbin Rocket. Old #3 is one of only three operating geared logging locomotives on earth. This 55-ton antique was built in 1910, and today you’ll hear her puff and whistle her way along the free-flowing Greenbrier River in Northern Pocahontas County offering scenic views in the Monongahela National Forest. Arrive back in Elkins in time for a delicious dinner at the Railyard Restaurant at the Elkins Depot in Town Square. This evening, we take our seats at the American Mountain Theater and enjoy good clean comedy and musical performances by some of the finest entertainers around. Our folks love our visits here! ~~ All in all, a great day of Fall Fun, to be sure! Meals: (B, L, D)
DAY THREE: “All Aboard” as we drive to Cumberland, MD where we’ll travel back through time aboard the Western Maryland ScenicRailroad. During our 3-1/2-hour ride, we’ll climb through the spectacular scenery of the Allegheny Mountains. A narrator will be aboard to provide information about the views, history, and culture along your route. There will be a layover in Frostburg where you’ll enjoy an included lunch, watch them turn the engine on a turntable, and browse the shops on Frostburg’s Main Street. Our coach waits for us back at the station to begin our return trip home, refreshed and relaxed from three days of true “Mountain Magic”! Meal: (B, L)

Gad-About Tours Inc. reserves the right to cancel any tour that has not reached a minimum number of reservations. We reserve the right to change tour prices and itinerary. Tours are prepared up to a year in advance and may be impacted by circumstances that arise which are beyond our control. We reserve the right to cancel or refuse service to anyone, in our sole discretion. We always avoid changes and cancellations if at all possible, as we realize the inconvenience to you, our valued customer.
All of our tours are by late-model, deluxe wide-body motorcoach. They are equipped with air-conditioning, reclining seats, public address system, VCR, and emergency restrooms. Our intent is for all overnight tours to be professionally escorted for your convenience. Upon occasion, in order to avoid canceling a trip with a low passenger count, our driver may serve both positions of driver and escort, and all are professionally trained to do so. Also, on air trips with low passenger counts, we may not be able to provide an escort from our company. However, we will provide airport transportation*, plus a guide from our connecting company will meet you upon arrival at your destination and be with you throughout the entire tour. (*If only a few are going on a given air tour, we will pay your airport parking fee in lieu of using the coach.)
Your lodging is included on all overnight tours. All hotels are AAA rated. We never use second-rate hotels, restaurants, or activities on any tour, to the best of our ability to make that determination. Payment of telephone calls, room service, and other incidentals at places of lodging are the responsibility of the customer.
One suitcase per person is included in the price of your tour. You are also permitted a carry-on, which is your responsibility. Additional luggage may be transported at the cost of $5.00 per bag, per day. It is wise to travel light. Luggage tags are provided and required for hotel identification, and are sent with the final letter with the phone numbers of your hotels.
TAXES AND GRATUITIES:
All taxes and gratuities for included meals and activities are included, unless otherwise mentioned by the Escort. Driver and Escort gratuities are not included in the price of the tour, and are optional. However, the suggested gratuity as posted by the American Bus Assoc. for a job well done is $2.00-$2.50 per person/per day for the tour escort, and $2.00-$2.50 per person/per day for the driver. We request that you express this on an individual basis, and let the quality of service received be your guide.
On all overnight tours, we use a daily seat rotation. The first day of a trip, we allow you to choose your seat when you get on, and rotate from there. We feel this is fair to all involved. If the coach is not full, a less formal rotation may be used at escort’s discretion.
We make regular stops for restrooms and for the convenience of smokers; however, we have a NO SMOKING policy aboard all coaches. This policy also applies to e-cigarettes.
Gad-About Tours, Inc. is bonded, insured, and registered with the ICC, number MC 198451.
