In 2013, Gettysburg celebrated its 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg…and what a celebration it was. To help commemorate that remarkable event in our history, a brand new train ride attraction opened, called the “Steam Into History Train” where you will ride along the same rails that carried President Lincoln from Washington, DC to Gettysburg where he delivered one of the greatest speeches in American History! In addition, you will have the unique experience of dining in three different historic taverns, each with its own remarkable tales through history. This three day vacation package is filled with history and fun all wrapped into one!
August 7 – We start out our fabulous historic journey with a stop for lunch at the Jean Bonnet Tavern near Bedford, and be welcomed to a yesteryear experience of old tavern charm. This tavern was destined to play in several historical roles through time including an important haven for early settlers and travelers and was built on the only road connecting eastern PA with the Ohio River and territories beyond. In October 1794, troops summoned by President George Washington camped here. We will enjoy a rich and delicious lunch and hear a fascinating overview about this historic landmark tavern. As we head further east, we will arrive this afternoon at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitors Center. Here, we will spend some time experiencing one of the largest and most important Civil War collections brought to life through three inspiring venues with sights and sounds of the Battle of Gettysburg and Civil War. This center features relics of the Battle of Gettysburg and personalities who served in the Civil War, interactive exhibits and multi-media presentations that cover the conflict from beginning to end. You will view the movie "New Birth of Freedom" (which is narrated by award winning actor, Morgan Freeman), a state of the art feature film shown exclusively here. You will experience the restored Gettysburg Cyclorama painting with a light and sound show which surrounds visitors in the final fury of Gettysburg and Pickett’s Charge. We will then check in to our local Gettysburg hotel which will be our host for the next 2 nights, located in an excellent location and walkable to various attractions. After a full day, a wonderful dinner will be included at the oldest building in Gettysburg at the popular Dobbin House Tavern built in 1776. They are well known for delicious food and charming surroundings. This historic tavern overlooks the site where President Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address and was once a stop on the Underground Railroad. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Dobbin House Tavern is truly an authentic colonial tavern where guests may "eat, drink, and be merry". Enjoy your dining experience! (L, D )
August 8– Breakfast included. We will then meet our guide for a battlefield tour where you will see and hear the drama unfold as this vivid tour takes you back to those fateful days as you cover over 23 miles of sacred ground. We will drive through the battlefield grounds with complete narration where you get a real feel of what happened…there are close to 1,400 various monuments and markers which dot the landscape of this 6,000-acre Gettysburg Battlefield, each having their own meaning of this historic event. This tour is a real experience for all. After our Battlefield Tour, you will have some free time to explore as you wish and have lunch on your own (as requested by past travelers on this tour). Enjoy the shops and your choice of eateries. Then it’s all aboard at the "Steam Into History Train" for a 2 hour train excursion along the same rails that carried President Lincoln from Washington to Gettysburg to deliver one of the greatest speeches in American History. Enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the rolling countryside, much as it was in the late 1860’s as you relive Civil War railroad history. We will then partake in another remarkable tavern dining experience for dinner at the Roosevelt Tavern in York. In addition to this tavern’s long tales through history including various owners and tavern names, it is presently owned and operated with the highest level of quality by partnering with the local farmers in the preparation of their delicious dishes with an Executive Chef on the premises. This has made them one of the most popular restaurants in the area - you will enjoy this evening! (B, D)
August 9 – Breakfast included. This morning we will take special transportation to the Eisenhower National Historic Site located adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield and was the home and farm of General and President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mamie Eisenhower. The farm served as a weekend retreat for the President and a meeting place for world leaders. It was the Eisenhower’s' home after they left the White House in 1961. This home offered President Eisenhower a much-needed respite from the pressures of Washington and it was also a successful cattle operation, with a show herd of Black Angus cattle. Some of the more notable of Eisenhower's guests were British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and California Governor Ronald Reagan, among others. Lunch will be included in the area before we depart Gettysburg for home after a wonderful fun and historic trip! (B, L)

All of our tours are by late-model, deluxe wide-body motorcoach. They are equipped with air-conditioning, reclining seats, public address system, VCR, and emergency restrooms. Our intent is for all overnight tours to be professionally escorted for your convenience. Upon occasion, in order to avoid canceling a trip with a low passenger count, our driver may serve both positions of driver and escort, and all are professionally trained to do so. Also, on air trips with low passenger counts, we may not be able to provide an escort from our company. However, we will provide airport transportation*, plus a guide from our connecting company will meet you upon arrival at your destination and be with you throughout the entire tour. (*If only a few are going on a given air tour, we will pay your airport parking fee in lieu of using the coach.)
Your lodging is included on all overnight tours. All hotels are AAA rated. We never use second-rate hotels, restaurants, or activities on any tour, to the best of our ability to make that determination. Payment of telephone calls, room service, and other incidentals at places of lodging are the responsibility of the customer.
One suitcase per person is included in the price of your tour. You are also permitted a carry-on, which is your responsibility. Additional luggage may be transported at the cost of $5.00 per bag, per day. It is wise to travel light. Luggage tags are provided and required for hotel identification, and are sent with the final letter with the phone numbers of your hotels.
TAXES AND GRATUITIES:
All taxes and gratuities for included meals and activities are included, unless otherwise mentioned by the Escort. Driver and Escort gratuities are not included in the price of the tour, and are optional. However, the suggested gratuity as posted by the American Bus Assoc. for a job well done is $2.00-$2.50 per person/per day for the tour escort, and $2.00-$2.50 per person/per day for the driver. We request that you express this on an individual basis, and let the quality of service received be your guide.
On all overnight tours, we use a daily seat rotation. The first day of a trip, we allow you to choose your seat when you get on, and rotate from there. We feel this is fair to all involved. If the coach is not full, a less formal rotation may be used at escort’s discretion.
We make regular stops for restrooms and for the convenience of smokers; however, we have a NO SMOKING policy aboard all coaches. This policy also applies to e-cigarettes.
