Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Overnight Flight 

Portugal - a historic land of great explorers is waiting for your own exploration.  Discover ancient castles, Roman ruins, groves of lemon and almond trees, quiet whitewashed villages, and kind, gentle people .

Day 2:  Cascais, Portugal - Tour Begins

Your tour beings today in Cascais, a scenic coastal resort on the "Portuguese Riviera," and your home for three nights.  The mansions scattered about Cascais and nearby Monte Estoril hint at its history as a have for exiled European royals and nobility.  Tonight, join your fellow passengers for a welcome dinner. (D)

Day 3: Cascais - Lisbon - Cascais

This morning enjoy a city tour of Lisbon, Portugal's capital set on seven hills overlooking the Tagus River.  Your tour highlights the Moorish Alfamea Quarter.  See the 16th-century Jeronimo's Monastery ( a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the Monument to the discoveries, which honors intrepid Portuguese explorers and their patrons.  The impressive Belem tower, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features carved rope and balconies that stand watch where great navigators once set forth.  Later today, enjoy leisure time in Cascais.  Stroll its narrow cobblestone streets, walk the wind ocean-side promenade or shop for ceramics, lace, filigree, hand woven works and tapestries  (B)

Day 4: Cascais - Sintra - Obidos - Fatima - Cascais

Begin your day exploring the picturesque town of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the favorite summer residence of Portuguese kings for six centuries.  Travel to Portugal's beautiful "Silver coast" a spectacular region filled with sleepy villages, rich vineyards and age-old castles.  Proceed to picture-perfect Obidos, where white washed housed are held snug by medieval city walls.  Later, visit Fatimas, the world-famous Marian pilgrimage site.  This evening, savor excellent Portuguese cuisine and wine while local artist perform folkloric dances and songs, including the traditional Fado (UNESCO) . (B, D)

Day 5: Cascais - Evora - Monsaraz - Alentenjo  

Travel through beautiful Portuguese countryside and stop in historic Evora, A UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as the "Museum City of Portugal."  Inside this medieval walled city lies a 2nd-century Roman temple to Diana.  Then, journey to the hilltop, walled village of Monsaraz, a "jewel in the crown" of the Alentejo.  This small medieval town has carefully preserved its original charm.  From the 13th-century castle you'll enjoy amazing panoramic views of the Alentejo countryside.  Enjoy an overnight stay in the heart of Alentejo's countryside during an overnight stay at a country resort set among 3,000 acres of farm land, vineyard and cork trees.  Before dinner, indulge in a winery tour and a tasting of the full-bodied character of Alentejo's wines.  (B, D) 

Day 6: Alentejo - Lagos - Sagres - Algarve

Travel to the famous Algarve and the historic resort town of Lagos, where Moorish and Renaissance influences abound.  Here, the famous voyager, Prince Henry the Navigator began his explorations and from the harbor, Vasco da Gama sailed in 1199 on his epic voyage of discovery.  Enjoy time to explore views.  Next, visit the 16th-century fortress at Sagres, home of Prince Henry's School of Navigation and  the "compass rose."  You will also garner magnificent views of beautiful Cape of St. Vincente where 200-foot cliffs plunge into the Atlantic at the most southwesterly point of Europe.  (B, D)

Day 7: Algarve

The  entire day is yours to independently experience the beautiful Algarve.  Geraniums, camellias and oleanders grow alongside fig, orange and almond trees while brightly colored fishing boast bob on the seas.  Protected by hills to the north and warmed by the sea, the Algarve's mild climate and beautiful beaches attract vacationers from all over Europe . (B)

Day 8: Algarve - Sao Bras de Alporta - Algarve

Portugal is the world's number one produce of cork and today you have the opportunity to learn about its importance to the local economy and its many uses.  In historic Sao Bras de Alportel, visit a local cork factory and museum and create your own cork souvenir.  Later, a presentation by a local liqueur maker is followed by a tasting of some of the many varietys produced in the region.  Your day concludes with a cooking demonstration of Portuguese cuisine followed by a sumptuous dinner featuring local delicacies and wines.  (B, L, D)

Day 9: Algarve - Azeitao - Lisbon

En route to Lisbon, visit Azeitao, a charming agricultural village know for red wine, olive trees and beautiful country estates.  Visit a family-run shop that demonstrates how azulejo, the famous hand-painted Portuguese tiles, are made.  Next, visit the Azeitao Wine Museum at the centuries-old Jose Maria da Fonseca Winery for a tour and tasting of local wines, including moscatel.  Later, bid "adeus" to Portugal during a dinner celebrating the end of a wonderful tour.  (B. Day 10: Lisbon - Overnight Flight - Tour Ends

Today we will fly home with wonderful memories of our Trip to Sunny Portugal.  (B)

For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover if you are making your reservation by phone, or you can send a check to our office (please call first to check availability). If you are booking online, payment must be made in full.

Up to 45 days prior to departure date, a full refund will be made. *Air and cruise tours, and some longer tours, may be different—be sure to ask for details when making your reservation. Tours including tickets also generally have earlier non-refundable dates. There are no refunds for cancellations made within 45 days prior to your departure date. However, we will do our best to recover as much as we can, but cannot guarantee anything. There will be no refund, for any reason, for a “no-show” on the day of the tour. A “Refund Protection Plan” is available at our office at a minimal cost. This insures you a full refund in case of a death or illness in the immediate family up to 24 hours before the tour departs. (It does require a doctor’s written note or copy of death notice.) On longer tours, we have a special insurance plan available if you are interested, and it will be sent to you with your confirmation. We encourage you to take advantage of these protection plans. The Refund Protection Plan does not apply to Day Trips, nor are there any refunds for Day Trips, with a few exceptions.

Gad-About Tours Inc. reserves the right to cancel any tour that has not reached a minimum number of reservations. We reserve the right to change tour prices and itinerary. Tours are prepared up to a year in advance and may be impacted by circumstances that arise which are beyond our control. We reserve the right to cancel or refuse service to anyone, in our sole discretion. We always avoid changes and cancellations if at all possible, as we realize the inconvenience to you, our valued customer.

All of our tours are by late-model, deluxe wide-body motorcoach. They are equipped with air-conditioning, reclining seats, public address system, VCR, and emergency restrooms. Our intent is for all overnight tours to be professionally escorted for your convenience. Upon occasion, in order to avoid canceling a trip with a low passenger count, our driver may serve both positions of driver and escort, and all are professionally trained to do so. All Fly Trips include airfare from Cleveland Airport , transfers and air taxes and fess (subject to increase until paid in full). You will drive yourself to the airport. Trip insurance is available, and will be sent to you upon making your reservation for your individual consideration.

Your lodging is included on all overnight tours. All hotels are AAA rated. We never use second-rate hotels, restaurants, or activities on any tour, to the best of our ability to make that determination. Payment of telephone calls, room service, and other incidentals at places of lodging are the responsibility of the customer.

One suitcase per person is included in the price of your tour. You are also permitted a carry-on, which is your responsibility. Additional luggage may be transported at the cost of $5.00 per bag, per day. It is wise to travel light. Luggage tags are provided and required for hotel identification, and are sent with the final letter with the phone numbers of your hotels.

All taxes and gratuities for included meals and activities are included, unless otherwise mentioned by the Escort. Driver and Escort gratuities are not included in the price of the tour, and are optional. However, the suggested gratuity as posted by the American Bus Assoc. for a job well done is $2.00-$2.50 per person/per day for the tour escort, and $2.00-$2.50 per person/per day for the driver. We request that you express this on an individual basis, and let the quality of service received be your guide.

On all overnight tours, we use a daily seat rotation. The first day of a trip, we allow you to choose your seat when you get on, and rotate from there. We feel this is fair to all involved. If the coach is not full, a less formal rotation may be used at escort’s discretion.

We make regular stops for restrooms and for the convenience of smokers; however, we have a NO SMOKING policy aboard all coaches. This policy also applies to e-cigarettes.

Gad-About Tours, Inc. is bonded, insured, and registered with the ICC, number MC 198451. We act only as agents and are not responsible to any person for any loss of time or money due to a change or delay beyond our control. Nor are we responsible for non-performance by those we have contracted with. Any claims against Gad-About Tours Inc. must be made, in writing, within 30 days of the trip.

Any person or group which requires an ADA accessible bus is requested to inform us at the time of reservation, and must notify us in writing no later than 48 hours prior to the charter's departure.
