Tour Itinerary:

June 19 – Today we head to Frederick, Maryland with a lunch stop (on your own) en route. Welcome to this beautiful area of Frederick which will be our host for tonight. Upon arrival in this lovely town, we will first visit the Frederick Visitor Center for a welcoming - you will enjoy the beautiful surroundings in this impeccably kept downtown area which won a National Main Street award. There will be time to look through the exhibits at the Visitor Center about Frederick County and view the Emmy-award winning documentary movie about your surroundings. Next is check-in at our host hotel to freshen up before our evening out. Within a very short drive, we will arrive at the Walkersville Scenic Railroad Station built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in the late 1800’s.You will step aboard the Walkersville’s richly restored dining car where you will enjoy a served meal with gracious service in a grand setting - step back in time and immerse yourself as you relax on this leisurely ride with soothing background music while dining…a lovely and unique experience for all - this is how life used to be! June 20 – Breakfast is included at your hotel. This morning, we have allowed some free time in the downtown area where you can explore and enjoy the abundance of shops, antique shops, eateries and museums as you wish. Downtown Frederick boasts a walkable retail area filled with independently owned shops, many housed in historic buildings. You will find just what you want with items hand-picked by store owners to suit customers like you. For lunch, you will be able to sample the fare as you wish, at one-of-a-kind restaurants downtown with the local food scene featuring American and International specialties. Enjoy casual and fine dining, indoor and outdoor dining spaces with everything from comfort food to cutting-edge cuisine. The restaurants, located in historic buildings, offer balcony or garden-view dining, elegant architecture and cozy spots for people-watching. Early this afternoon, we will say goodbye to this little gem of a town, and travel on to our next stop at the Steam Into History Train. You will enjoy a 2 hour train excursion along the same rails that carried President Lincoln from Washington to Gettysburg to deliver one of the greatest speeches in American history, the Gettysburg Address. Enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the rolling countryside, much as it was in the late 1860’s as you relive Civil War railroad history. Our motorcoach will be waiting when we arrive back at the station as we drive to our last overnight in the historic town of Gettysburg to check in. Our hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants and attractions and you are free to enjoy as you wish - a free summer evening in Gettysburg. (B)

June 21 – Breakfast included at your hotel. This morning, we will visit the Gettysburg National Park Museum and Visitors Center which will provide full insight of the importance of Gettysburg and its place in history. Here, we will spend some time experiencing one of the largest and most important Civil War collections brought to life through three inspiring venues with sights and sounds of the Battle of Gettysburg and Civil War. This center features relics of the Battle of Gettysburg and personalities who served in the Civil War, interactive exhibits and multi-media presentations that cover the conflict from beginning to end. You will view the movie "New Birth of Freedom" (which is narrated by award winning actor, Morgan Freeman), a state of the art feature film shown exclusively here. You will experience the restored Gettysburg Cyclorama painting with a light and sound show which surrounds visitors in the final fury of Gettysburg and Pickett’s Charge. Lunch will then be included at the historic 1776 Dobbin House Tavern - Gettysburg’s oldest and most historic home which is beautifully and authentically restored, serving as a lovely colonial restaurant for all visitors to the Gettysburg area. Four Score and Seven years before the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg (1776), Reverend Alexander Dobbin (from Ireland) came to America and the New World to begin a new life. It is here he built this new home for himself and his large family which ended up with 10 children of his own. Shortly after his arrival in America, he became Pastor of Rock Creek Presbyterian Church located just a mile out of what is known as Gettysburg. Today his home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is what is known as the Dobbin House Tavern Restaurant…you will dine amidst these historic walls with gracious service which brings back the sounds and tastes of two centuries ago - enjoy your unique dining experience! Departure for home after lunch. (B, L)
