We are disappointed to announce today the temporary suspension of our Van Galder Bus, based in Janesville, Wisconsin, services to O’Hare International airport and downtown Chicago effective Friday, April 3, 2020.

At this point we anticipate this temporary suspension of services will be through the end of April and will further review at that time in the light of COVID-19 pandemic developments.

Van Galder has operated continuously for over 73 years, and this is the first time in their history that we have suspended all service, other than weather cancellations.

We were very disappointed to be forced into this decision as a direct result of no clear line of financial assistance available to either bus transportation directly or as part of the support services to the airline industry in the airline stimulus package.  We are a major employer in the Janesville area and provide critical transportation to our customers even in this period of reduced airline activity.   This suspension of services will temporarily impact 175 employees.  We are working with our dedicated employees to help them access available support services.

We will keep our website updated with further developments.

As a valued customer, Coach USA and Megabus want to keep you informed as to the proactive steps we are taking in relation to the Coronavirus, which has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”).  For the most up to date information on local schedule changes, visit our service advisories page here.

We are a leader in transportation safety and, therefore, it is important that we keep our employees and passengers informed and assure you of your safety during travel on any of our services.  We have been monitoring reports provided by federal, state and local government sites and keeping communications open with various organizations and affiliations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”).  Based on what has been communicated, we have implemented the following preventative measures:

  • As of Monday, May 18th, passengers will be required to wear a facial covering in situations where social distancing is not possible. This includes while waiting in line, during the boarding process, when moving around the bus, and when getting off the bus. We encourage everyone to wear a mask throughout the duration of the trip. Please visit the CDC's website here for more information on how to wear masks and how to make one at home.
  • We have been and will continue to wash and wipe down all of our buses on a daily basis.
  • We are providing individual hand sanitizers to all of our employees.
  • Disinfectant wipes will be placed on all buses so that high traffic areas, hand rails and hard surfaces can be wiped down regularly.
  • Disinfectant wipes will be made available in common work areas in every depot and office so that all door knobs, and hard surfaces can be wiped down regularly.
  • While en route with passengers, all efforts will be made to allow as much fresh air as possible into the bus.

We also encourage you to visit the CDC that provides the most up to date information on COVID-19.  Please visit the link https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/summary.html .  It also details what each individual can do to prevent his or her own exposure to COVID-19, which we include below for immediate reference:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

We will continue to be vigilant in our actions to ensure the safe travel of our employees and passengers and will post any updates as required.

Due to the closing of the Barstow St. bridge over the Fox River for approximately the next 4 months, Route #901 will operate a detour route in Waukesha.

Effective Monday, February 17th, 2020, our detour route eastbound from the Waukesha Transit center will take E. St. Paul Ave. to E. Moreland Blvd. and go across the bridge past Frame Park to White Rock Ave. Then west on White Rock Ave. for 2 blocks to Niagara St., then to Cleveland Ave. and back to Main Street where the route rejoins Main Street. Westbound will be the same roads in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, we will not be able to operate on Main St. between Barstow and Cleveland, and on Barstow between Main St. and St. Paul Ave. Please see the map below with the detour. For the majority of our riders that join the route east of Manhattan Dr. we do not anticipate any time delays based on our detour routing.

We are sorry at the late notice as the bridge closure was moved up a few weeks earlier than originally scheduled. It is hoped that we will be able to return to our normal route by early July when the Barstow Street bridge is re-opened. We apologize for this inconvenience as we try to minimize the impact the detour for all route #901 riders. As always, thank you for riding the Waukesha County Express operated by Wisconsin Coach Lines.
